Baling Hay
Here we have a double harvest of a crop. First, a harvester runs through the grain crop, it mows the plants and shucks out the grain. The grass that is left is piled behind in neat rows. (Some harvesters simply disperse the straw.) The grain is emptied into a collection 18-wheeler that will haul it to a silo or processor. Next, the baler gathers the straw and compresses it into bales for better handling. Bales are called “hay” if it retains its seed or grain. It deemed “straw” if the seeds are removed.
