Gerrard’s Chapel

While kicking around the south side of the Pamlico River last week, Lloyd Tippett stopped alongside me as I was taking pics of a deserted home. He and his son showed me Gerrard Chapel, a deserted Primitive Baptist church in the neighborhood. It was founded as a branch of the Baptist Church of Christ on Swift Creek in May 1808. It went inactive in the 1980s. Its graveyard is the resting place of Revolutionary War vet Joshua Hill.
